Ramsey and District U3A

UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE NEWSLETTER

Seasons Greetings to all our U3A Membership

The chairman (Sheila Gilbert-Hill) welcomed all to the Christmas party on Tuesday 13th December. Usual safety notices were read out.

One of our committee has stood down due to family commitments. The committee can continue for the moment with eight members, but we need volunteers so that our U3A may continue in the future, in addition, two committee members will be standing down next year.

Sheila went on to talk about our next months general meeting, when Anglian Water will talk to us about their future projects. They have asked permission to take photographs during their presentation. The proposal was put to the meeting and was approved by the majority attending.

The Groups Co-Ordinator (Jane Cusworth) then gave group news, the Food and Cookery Group is being reformed, Irene Lugg is the contact if you would like to join/re-join this group. This group will meet on the first Monday of the month. The Chess group are looking for new members to join, they meet on the fourth Monday of the month. There will be a Group Leaders meeting on February 1st2019 at the Ramsey Library starting at 2.00pm. Petanque will restart in February (weather permitting).

Each month in the foyer, groups will be able to display their wares and have the chance to talk to members about their activities. It will be first come first served, so group leaders, get your groups working on your presentations.  In January, the Digital Photography Group will be displaying their wares.

A big thank you to all Group Leaders for keeping their web pages and calendars up to date. Please ensure that your attendance registers are handed in to Jane. If your group collects money and keep accounts, can you let Lynda Lewis have end of year details.  To all members, please keep looking at our website, Aspire and the notice boards.

We started our meeting with food on the table, and three table quizzes. Red and white wine, schloer and soft drinks were available in the foyer.

A brief presentation of Christmas around the world was given by Sheila Gilbert-Hill and Mike Lewis, whilst the meeting enjoyed their food and drink. After a short interval, the Hand Chime Group played festive music with a chance for the meeting to join in. The results of the table quizzes were then delivered, as there were just for fun and personal satisfaction, so no scores were added up and no prizes awarded.

We then had a sing along with festive songs and carols, the piano accompaniment was by Jackie Southwell, and included our favourite carols and ‘The 12 days of Christmas’ with placard waving. The meeting then closed with best wishes for a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. A big thank you to all who helped make our party such a success.
