Family History

While we are all in Self Isolation there are no meetings but that doesn’t mean we cannot stay in touch. We have set up a closed Facebook Group which is only available to members of Ramsey & District U3A Family History Group and it is not visible to anyone outside that group either. If you would like to become a member of the Facebook Group please email me on sheilagilberthill@hotmail.com.

Alternatively if you do not use Facebook feel free to email or telephone me to discuss your Family History conundrums or just for a chat. We all need contact in these stressful times.

The Family History Group is made up of 2 sections (see below).

Everyone is welcome to attend either or both meetings. We charge a fee of £1 per meeting to cover the cost of hiring a room in Ramsey Library plus refreshments.

We usually have a Summer Party in July and hope all members of both sections will be able to attend this.

If you are interested in joining one or both sections please contact Dave or Sheila Gilbert-Hill on 01354 677320

Introduction to Genealogy

This section will meet on the 4th Monday of the month at 2.00 p.m. It is aimed primarily at those who are want to start or are in the early stages of researching their family story. There will be some structured tuition at each meeting and time to do some personal research. Mentors will be available to help and handouts will be emailed to everyone for them to keep for future reference. These will also be available to members of the Family History Research section.

Family History Research

This section will meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at 2.00 p.m. It is aimed at those who have developed their research skills and want to move on to perhaps undertaking a project e.g. tracing the maternal line, writing A4 sheets on individual ancestors or even writing their own life story.

This is an informal meeting with time for everyone to talk for up to 5 minutes about their progress, seek help with those annoying brick walls and to do some personal research. The Group Leaders will research subjects that have been suggested by the members and bring information to the meetings.
